Adopt-a-Family Program

The Holiday season
should be a time of
giving and a time of hope.
For those in our community
who are struggling,
it can be a time of
hopelessness and despair.

Over 1,800 Children and Adults had their Christmas and Thanksgiving wishes granted during our 2009 Holiday Adopt-A-Family Program, thanks to community sponsors like you.

The Overlake Service League Holiday Adopt-a-Family program allows caring individuals, concerned families, and community groups to personally make a difference for a struggling family during Thanksgiving and/or Christmas. The Adopt-a-Family program is a matching program. Members of the community sponsor struggling families that best meet their ability to give. Sponsors can adopt a family for Thanksgiving or Christmas, or both.

Thanksgiving Sponsors provide:

  • Non-perishable food for the holiday meal and the long weekend.
  • A grocery store gift card for meat or poultry and fresh/perishable items.
Sponsors are given a list of foods that provide not only a holiday dinner but well-balanced breakfast and lunch food items to help support families while their children are on holiday break from school.

Christmas Sponsors provide:

  • A grocery store gift card for the holiday meal and school break.
  • Christmas gifts for each family member.
Christmas sponsors will receive a "Wish List" from their family, identifying favorite colors, sizes and specific needs. Wish lists for each family are provided to sponsors in early November.

Sponsors bring their donations to a central distribution center on assigned days.

Volunteers play a big role in the "Adopt-a-Family" program. Not only as sponsors, but as workers helping at the distribution center. Lots of support is needed to lay tarps, pack food boxes, unload deliveries and help families load their cars. A team of volunteers also help with home deliveries that are made to seniors, families that lack transportation, and individuals with disabilities. It's a rewarding experience for everyone. If you would like to volunteer for distribution please contact holidayadoptafamily@gmail.com
