2009 Step Up to the Plate Honorary Chairs, Naveen and Anu Jain
Naveen Jain is an entrepreneur and a technology pioneer. He is a founder and CEO of Intelius, a company that empowers consumers with information to make intelligent decisions about personal safety and security. Intelius is best known for its award winning Identity Theft Protection Service and Background Check services. Prior to Intelius, Jain founded InfoSpace and took it public in 1998 on NASDAQ. He served as CEO of InfoSpace until December 2002. InfoSpace is best known for providing instant information on cellular phones. Before starting InfoSpace, Jain was a senior executive at Microsoft Corporation.
Jain grew up in Utter Pradesh, India and earned his engineering undergraduate degree from Indian Institute of technology (IIT, Roorkee) and went on to earn his MBA from Xavier Institute of Management. Jain left India 25 years ago to explore the emerging U.S. technology market. He arrived in the US with nothing more than a dream to build a future in the country.
Jain has been awarded many honors for his entrepreneurial successes and leadership skills including “Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year”, “Albert Einstein Technology Medal” for pioneers in technology, “Top 20 Entrepreneurs” by Red Herring, “Six People Who Will Change the Internet” by Information Week. His success with Intelius has earned such accolades as “Best New Company” by the American Business Awards, Puget Sound Business Journal’s “One of Washington’s Top Three Best Workplaces”, “Rising Star” in Deloitte & Touche’s Technology Fast 500 Program, “America’s Top 500 Fastest-Growing Private Companies” by Inc. Magazine and has been listed amongst the top 15 Corporate Philanthropists in the greater Puget Sound area.
Anu Jain
Anu Jain is deeply committed to philanthropy. She is currently Vice President of Community Relations at Intelius and is the primary driver for charitable giving at Intelius.
Anu was involved with InfoSpace since its inception in 1996, heading the Finance and Human Resource department for the first two years. When the company went public in 1998, Anu saw the opportunity to leverage the company's increasing prominence to help people in need. She created InfoSpace's Community Relations department and also founded and managed the InfoSpace Foundation.
Anu is currently a board member of Pratham, an early learning education non-profit organization and has just completed her six year term as a board member at University Prep Academy. Previously, she also served on the board of United Way of King County.
Anu remains a strong proponent of charitable giving and is very involved with several non-profit organizations that support our local community such as Hopelink, United Way of King County, Treehouse, Overlake Service League and Children’s Hospital to name a few.
Anu holds a BA in business administration and economics from SUNY, Stony Brook, NY, and an MBA from Rutgers University in New Jersey. Anu and Naveen Jain are the proud parents of three children.
As a family, the Jains are actively engaged in many philanthropic activities and have generously contributed to an assortment of organizations dedicated to children, education, hunger and providing quality medical care to the uninsured. Many community organizations have benefitted from their charitable activities including; United Way, Children’s Hospital, HopeLink, Tree House, Boys and Girls Club, America India Foundation, Vedic Cultural Center, Seattle Art Museum, Children Rights & You and the University of Washington.
Jain currently resides in Medina, WA (a suburb of Seattle) with his wife and 3 children.
